Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Stop drinking only water and use a little wine instead, because of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

If your brother is distressed by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother, for whom Christ died. Do not allow what you consider good, then, to be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification. . . .

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. and wealth indeed betrays him. He is an arrogant man never at rest. He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, and like Death, he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself and collects all the peoples as his own.

Promiscuity, wine, and new wine take away understanding.

Woe to the majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards, to the fading flower of his glorious splendor, set on the summit above the fertile valley, the pride of those overcome by wine.

The majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards will be trampled underfoot.

A feast is prepared for laughter, and wine makes life merry, but money is the answer for everything.

Because of this, they consider it strange of you not to plunge with them into the same flood of reckless indiscretion, and they heap abuse on you.

So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

Let your gentleness be apparent to all. The Lord is near.

As God’s steward, an overseer must be above reproach—not self-absorbed, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not greedy for money.

They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves to depravity. For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.

and said, “Everyone serves the fine wine first, and then the cheap wine after the guests are drunk. But you have saved the fine wine until now!”

But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life.”

In the end it bites like a snake and stings like a viper.

Be careful, however, that your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.
